Each participating Local Educational Agency (LEA) appoints an
appropriate administrator of special education programs to membership on
the SELPA Steering Committee. The SELPA Steering Committee may be
requested by the SELPA Board of Directors to provide advise or
assistance in other areas as needs are identified within the SELPA.
The SELPA Steering Committee meets on a regular basis and the
SELPA Administrator serves as the Chairperson of the committee. The
duties of the Steering Committee include, but are not limited to the
following:
- Provide information and recommendations for the development,
modification, and implementation of the Local Plan to the SELPA Board of
Directors
- Develop and implement forms and procedures for the identification,
referral, assessment, IEP development, and special education service
delivery to individuals with disabilities as established by the Local
Plan
- Develop procedures and recommendations for programs and services for
review, modification, and approval by the SELPA Board of Directors
- Develop, review and/or modify an annual budget for SELPA operations,
including Regional Services, Program Specialists and other SELPA
administrative budgets prior to review, modification, and approval by
the SELPA Board of Directors
- Recommend and monitor staff development training programs, including parent education activities
- Provide recommendations for membership for the Community Advisory Committee
- Develop, review and/or modify the Annual Service Plan prior to adoption by the SELPA Board of Directors
- Develop, review and/or modify the Annual Budget Plan prior to adoption by the SELPA Board of Directors
In addition to carrying out the responsibilities identified in the
Local Plan, the Steering Committee may choose to form subcommittees to
focus on special issues. Such subcommittees shall report to the SELPA
Steering Committee or SELPA Board of Directors, as appropriate.
